How does your garden grow?

My neighbor and I decided to grow a garden together this year. As a team we came up with a plan of where to put the plot, how to lay it out, and what seeds and plants to put in the ground. It was hard finding a place that would allow for 6 hours of sun in our yards because there are so many trees in our yards that give off shade or block the sunlight. We cleared the land with the help of both our boys (six altogether). The boys enjoyed using their hatchets and saws to cut down some fairly large trees. It took hours and hours to get the soil turned and ready for planting. We used garden ties to hold one side of the land because it was on a sloping hill. Because of the deer, rabbits, and squirrels we also had to put up a fence of chicken wire to keep the critters out. I hope that works. We planted tomato, pepper, cucumber, squash, and zucchini plants and then from seed we planted gourds, pumpkins, white pumpkins, beets, beans, peas, and lettuce. It's been almost two weeks and all the seeds have sprouted. Everything looks great except the squash and zucchini plants are getting yellow leaves. What's up with that? We're very excited and look forward to a great crop.

  1. Very impressive--but I must say--being outside in that heat looks like it was wasting a very good straight hair day!

  2. That is so awesome!! So this is in the backyard area?? That's where I am thinking from the pictures.. I can't wait to get my yard so I can't plant some yummy fresh veggies. So fun... a little project for you and the kids will love watching them grow. I liked it when dad planted gardens a few years in the back.

  3. The garden looks great Sheila! What a great idea to go in with a neighbor, we are always giving veggies to the neighbors, because we can't eat them all. Craig wanted to plant ours today, but is in bed with the flu, maybe for family night.

  5. Awesome Garden. We are hoping ours does not burn from our summer heat, but everyone says it is possible. Good luck
