Preparing to Serve

It's been a busy week and a half over here for Landon and our family.  He spoke last Sunday in church, February 9, 2014 in preparation for leaving on his mission to North Carolina, Raleigh.  He spoke on how keeping our covenants and keeping the commandments helps us to be happy in this life.  He looked so sharp up on the stand in his crisp, black new missionary suit.  He spoke with an amazing amount of confidence and really showed that he is so ready for this new missionary service that he is about to embark upon.  As his mother, I couldn't have been more proud of my 19 year old son who is preparing to serve the Lord for two years.  He is ready and the people of North Carolina will be so blessed to have him in their area.
On that Sunday evening we had an open house at our home for friends and family to come give Landon their well wishes and to send him off with their love and support.  It was very well attended and it was fun to see all the people who want the best for Landon.  We decorated the buffet table using a "lighthouse" theme.  On the letterhead of the North Carolina mission that we have received information from they used the lighthouse as their symbol.  I love it!  It reminds me of our awesome beach trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina where we saw lighthouses.  It also is a good reminder that Landon will be like a lighthouse on his mission, spreading the light of the Gospel to others during his two year service.  Landon and I shopped around and found a really cool lighthouse to use as a centerpiece on the food table for the open house.  He will get to keep this lighthouse when he gets home.  It's really cool!
I was so crazy busy during the open house talking to people and making sure the food and drink was taken care of that I didn't take any pictures.  I'm really bummed about that but I did snap a few pictures of Landon after everyone had left holding his lighthouse.  May the Lord protect and help him as he shares the light of the Gospel.
